What is mantrailing?

Any dog can trail, even ....

  • Mantrailing is a sport teaching dogs to find people by following their unique scent trail.
  • All dogs have a natural ability to hunt and therefore mantrailing provides them with an outlet to do this in a safe controlled way.
  • We teach pet owners and their dogs to learn this amazing game as a sport and for fun

  • Dogs need a 'job' to develop their confidence and self-esteem, mantrailing allows the dog to use its natural abilities and brain
  • Tires energetic dogs when using their brains
  • Fun activity outdoors with no competition
  • Build an amazing bond with your dog
  • Give your dog mental stimulation
  • Meet with like minded people

Northern Mantrailing - Led by an accredited Mantrailing Global instructor

Getting started

  • All mantrailing is undertaken in a non competitive group environment (3-5 teams)
  • Teams will initially need to complete an 'introduction to mantrailing' session to be certified for 'progression' sessions
  • Sessions will last around 3 hours
  • Handlers take turns to work their dogs one at a time.
  • When not being worked dogs will rest in the handlers vehicle
  • Handlers will be required to be 'trail layer' (hide) for other dog teams

What you will need

  • Your dog will need a harness ideally 'Y' shaped
  • An 8-10 metre long line
  • Small pots with high value treats
  • Normal/flat collar and lead
  • Water and bowl for your dog
  • Clothing suitable for outdoor weather conditions
  • Gloves if your dog likes to pull
